Ex-world champion boxer Charlie Shepherd has set a date for his next world record attempt.

Shepherd became a Guinness World Record holder after completing 2,325 push-ups in an hour in May last year.

His world record has since been broken in Switzerland but Shepherd will be looking to win it back at Carlisle’s Sands Centre on June 14.

Shepherd has fond memories of boxing at the Sands Centre, where he captured the IBO World Championship after defeating American Tom Johnson in 1999.

He said: “I just think it is pretty appropriate to do it there.

“I won the Commonwealth and the World titles there, and I worked with Mike Tyson there, as well.

“It would be the icing on the cake to go and smash this world record again and become a two-time Guinness World Record holder.

“Training has been going really well. The game plan is to demolish it by a hell of a lot. This is going to be pretty epic, I think.”

Shepherd will also be involved in an evening with legendary Panamanian fighter Roberto Durán at Birmingham’s Irish Centre on May 3.

He will then link-up with ex-world champion Barry McGuigan in Lanzarote.

Shepherd added: “I’m really busy at the moment. I have a lot of things planned. But I will be training non-stop in the meantime.”

All proceeds from Shepherd’s world record attempt will go to Eden Valley Hospice in Carlisle.
