Former Carlisle United midfielder Mike Jones is back in the EFL after Chesterfield clinched National League promotion.

Jones was in the Spireites side that defeated Boreham Wood 3-0 to seal their return to the League after a six-year absence.

The 36-year-old has been a mainstay of Paul Cook's side who are now 21 points above nearest rivals Barnet at the top of the table with six games to go.

Jones joined Chesterfield in the summer of 2022 after a spell with Barrow, having made 158 appearances in a four-year period at United from 2016 to 2020.

Jamie Grimes scored twice and Liam Mandeville got the other to trigger title celebrations at the SMH Group Stadium.

It lines up a reunion with his former club for Jones, with Carlisle on course to be relegated back to League Two.

United last faced Chesterfield in the 2017/18 fourth-tier season. Jones will remain on board with the Spireites next season having signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2025.
