Former Carlisle United keeper Max Crocombe will come up against his former club after making a League One move.

The New Zealand international has joined Burton Albion after leaving League Two club Grimsby Town.

He has signed a two-year deal with Dino Maamria's side and made his debut in a 1-1 pre-season draw with Nuneaton Borough on Saturday.

Crocombe, 29, was with United in the 2016/17 season and, after spells with Salford City and Australian sides Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory, joined Grimsby in 2021.

He helped the Mariners return to the EFL and was a regular in their side last season, making 60 appearances in league and cup, including Grimsby's memorable run to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

He will join another ex-Blues man in Cole Stockton at Burton, and Crocombe, speaking on the Brewers' website, said: "I’ve worked with Dino Maamria before [at Southport] so that was a big factor knowing how he wants to work.

"The last couple of years have gone really well for me and each year has just been a progression from National League to League Two and now League One.

"I’m excited to get going and prove my worth to the team.”

Carlisle face Burton at home on October 24 before the return clash at the Pirelli Stadium on February 13.
