Rising fuel prices: What impact are they having on you?

This week The Cumberland News reports on the effects rocketing fuel prices are having on people in Cumbria.

Record highs at the pumps for both petrol and diesel are hitting many hard, with financial experts warning the county will be particularly badly hit in its rural communities.

We've spoken to businesses - one whose fuel bill has jumped by £30,000 in a year - and families to find out just what impact rising costs are having on them.

Read more in this week's edition and we'd like to hear more about your own experiences.

Are fuel costs putting the squeeze on your business or changing how you run your life? Is there a case, as some MPs argue, for Cumbria, to get special action to ease the pain?

And with the Chancellor under pressure to show he understands the dilemmas should there be action in this month's Budget to ease the burden?

Tell us what you think by leaving your comments here, we'll be running a selection of the best in next week's paper.

Have your say

It only strikes you when for instance you go with a fuel can for the lawn mower, fill it and it cost nearly a tenner. Then you realise that most people only put a tenner in at a time in their car now. It makes more sense to ride the mower to work.....or, radical as this seems, buy a motorbike and pass your test. They use FAR less fuel and cost less road tax. It's a no brainer.

I work as an agency HGV driver at various locations in Cumbria and North Lancashire. I am now using approx £220 of fuel per month just to get to work. That is one big chunk out of my pay packet.
