More than 200 headstones in a town's cemetery have been deemed unsafe following an inspection.
In total, the Wigton JoinT Burial Committee, which runs the town's cemetery in Station Hill, found 212 insecure memorials.
Safety checks were started around April and any headstones which were found to be unsafe were temporarily secured while attempts were made to contact families.
Discussions about how to address the problems on a permanent basis have taken place between committee members.
Councillor Elaine Lynch, who is on the committee, fed back the progress to Wigton Town Council.
She said: "A decision has been made that, because of the various problems, the burial committee will make safe all 212 headstones at the cost of the committee. We'll be putting out tenders for that."
Families of the deceased's memorials have been contacted where possible.
She added: "A lot of families have got concerns about it so as a committee we decided to take the onus and responsibility. It's a very important health and safety thing."
