A six-week consultation is underway into proposals to relocate Longtown Post Office.
The plans – part of a nationwide modernisation programme – would see it relocated to within Julie Vevers Newsagents, in Swan Street. It is currently based on Swan Tree Lane.
The Post Office says it would allow it to extend the opening hours and would see it install one of its new integrated open plan service points – rather than the traditional screened counter.
Should the move go ahead, the branch would open from 7.30am to 6pm on Mondays to Saturdays, and from 7.30am to midday on Sundays.
Suzanne Richardson, Post Office regional manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Longtown and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
Customers are being asked to have their say on the proposals, before any decision is made.
The consultation is now open and will close on May 24.
