STORY Homes has revised the number of houses it proposes to build at Fairhill, Penrith, from 120 to 98.

The property developer has now submitted a planning application for 98 new homes, 29 of which will be affordable, and expects a decision before the end of the year.

These new homes include a mix of two to five-bed properties and will be bungalows and family houses.

About 70 people attended a public exhibition in Penrith in April when Story Homes showed the initial plans for the development.

Nearby residents at Fairhill Close said at the exhibition that they wanted bungalows to be built, which Story Homes has proposed.

Adam McNally, planner for Story Homes, said: “We have carried out an extensive pre-application process with authorities and the public. Where possible, we have tried to incorporate feedback and suggestions into our plans.

“We consider our proposals to represent a highly attractive and sustainable scheme that will appeal to a mix of people and help meet proven housing needs in the area.”

There are fields at the proposed development site opposite the golf course between Salkeld Road, Green Lane and Inglewood Road.

A speed reduction from 60mph to 30mph in some parts of Salkeld Road has also been proposed.

Story Homes say the development will bring several benefits to the area including affordable housing.

The developer will be investing about £10m in the project and will create several new construction jobs through site employees and sub-contractors.

At the presentation, it was suggested that between 30 and 35 houses would be built each year until the estate is complete.

Story Homes has developments across Carlisle, west Cumbria, Appleby, Kendal and in the north east, parts of the north west and Scotland.
