NHS staff in Cumbria have been promoting International Hand Hygiene Day.
North Cumbria Integrated Care has been promoting good hand hygiene habits this week to help stop the spread of diseases and illnesses.
A spokesperson said: "Washing our hands regularly and properly is a very effective way to stop the spread of harmful germs.
"Good hand hygiene, the simple task of cleaning hands at the right time and in the right way, can save lives.
"In our hospitals, our staff might need to clean their hands as many as 100 times per 12-hour shift, depending on the number of patients and intensity of care.
"Washing your hands properly with soap and water will kill viruses such as coronavirus and norovirus as well as many other germs and microorganisms that could cause illness."
