Emergency services were sent out to a report of a missing person on the coast.

Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said members were tasked, alongside their colleagues at Maryport Coastguard, by Cumbria Constabulary to respond to the report at the beach at Harrington.

“After quickly arriving on scene, a hasty search was conducted along the shoreline around the last known position, with Workington Lifeboat searching the sea and guiding us to people or items of interest to investigate on the shore.

“Rescue 199 Helicopter from Prestwick was quickly on the scene to assist the search from the air, able to cover a large area quickly.

“With the area thoroughly searched from land, sea, and air, we were satisfied that the missing person was no longer in the area.

“While making plans to extend the search area along the coast, we received the welcome news that the missing person was found elsewhere by Cumbria police.

“This is a good example of a multi-agency search resulting in a positive outcome.

“We would like to thank the first informants from both incidents today for being vigilant while enjoying our coast,” a spokesperson from Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said.
