A CUMBRIAN teenager made a kill threat as she lunged at a care home worker who thought she was going to be the victim of violence.

Carlisle youth court heard details on Friday of an incident involving the 17-year-old which occurred on the evening of December 5 last year.

“The complainant is a member of staff,” said prosecutor George Shelley. “It is in a care home where the (youth) is living. The victim is in a staff room with three other carers.”

The youth was shouting, and had told that worker: “I’m not in the mood for you tonight. You better leave and go home. I don’t want you here.”

Mr Shelley told the court: “She describes (the teen) lunging towards her, shouting ‘I want to kill you’.

“Essentially the victim has had to lock herself in a room.”

There had been a suggestion that the girl was 'armed with forks'.

She admitted a charge of common assault. There had been no physical contact but the staff member was left in fear that she would be struck.

But the girl vehemently denied any suggestion that there were any forks involved. “They are locked in a cupboard,” the teen told the court, saying she would not even have access to such items.

District judge John Temperley heard that the girl was already subject to a youth rehabilitation order (YRO), which had been imposed in September last year for an assault. This was due to expire in June.

That order had been going well although not all planned work with professionals had yet been carried out.

As a result, the judge opted to end that YRO and impose a new order, which will run for the next five months.

“It would be right for you to work with the youth justice (team) for a bit longer,” district judge Temperley told the teenager.
