IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at what the residents of north Cumbria got up to in the year 1991.

In world history in 1991; this was the year in which South African Parliament repealed apartheid laws.

This was also the year that Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of the band Queen, passed away.

In the charts that year was Canadian singer Bryan Adams who not only achieved the biggest-selling single of the year with “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You”, but also spent a record sixteen consecutive weeks at number-one with the song.

Other hits include The Farm classic ‘Altogether Now’, ‘and Vanilla Ice’s dance track ‘Ice Ice Baby’.

Big movies from the year also included ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ and psychological thriller ‘The Silence of the Lambs’.
