A MASSAGE clinic has added a new treatment room and hired a new therapist due to demand.

Calisa, in Cockermouth, opened three years ago on April 17, with just one bed and a full-time therapist – Malisa Lee.

Working as a sole trader prior, the Thai masseuse brought her clients over to Calisa and has since garnered more clients than they can handle.

“Three years ago you’d get three to four bookings a day, now we’re fully booked often weeks in advance.

“Over the Easter holidays we turned away 74 customers (due to the demand),” a spokesperson from Calisa said.

They’ve recently renovated and installed a new bed in the formerly vacant space near the reception area and hired a fully-qualified massage therapist Becca Todd – who specialises in sports and deep tissue massage – to occupy it.

The service provides various treatments, like lymphatic therapy, pregnancy pamper massage, reflexology, and Malisa’s renowned deep tissue which is “like no one else’s,” with the clinic receiving a lot of clients with injuries or pain and the skills to cater.

Other similar services focus on relaxation massages, which Calisa provides, but not recovery-based services, which they said is key to their longevity.

The clinic has also been fully decorated, and the new bed is much bigger after customers’ requests.

“Malisa can now do a full Thai massage, she can stand on the bed and do the full stretching,” the spokesperson said.

All renovations cost £5,000, including the new bed.

“We're never short of customers.

“We’re coming up now to the pre-holiday season, and where we failed most was we couldn’t do couple’s massaging – when it was tourist season we always got asked for that.

“Now we can thanks to the two beds,” they added.

The lease for the Main Street property has been renewed for three years, after that they’ll look at moving into a bigger building to expand further.
