A popular Penrith fish and chips shop has paid tribute to its 'mother goose' Marjory Lamb.

Marjory, or 'Marj' as she was affectionately known, sadly passed after a short illness on Tuesday, April 9.

Marj was an ever-present at Penrith's Angel Lane chippie, joining the fish and chip shop's team in 2008.

News and Star: The sad news of Marj's passing was announced by Angel Lane Chippie via social media and in the days since, co-owner Daniel Harding discussed the waves of tributes that the chippie has received.

He said: "We were shocked with the amount of posts and shares and nice comments there were just on social media never mind the fact that we have had cards and flowers and all sorts delivered to the shop."

"People have been coming in and donating money and at first, I was a bit taken aback because I did not know what to do with it but we are going to put it towards the charity that her family have chosen, Cancer Research.

News and Star: Daniel also paid his own tribute to Marj, who he described as being the 'mother goose' of Angel Lane Chippie.

He said: "Marj joined us a year after we took over Angel Lane in 2007 and since then she had been with us through thick and thin and an integral part of the team.

"She had seen a lot of people come and go and everybody always had a nice word to say about her.

"She was the matriarch, the mother goose, always the one that was older and wiser and wanted to make sure that the job was done absolutely right and she wouldn't take any stick.

"Everybody knew Marj, even outside of work people would stop and talk to her and sometimes she wouldn't know their names but she would know what they ordered."
