Textile talents from the Western Lake District Fells are set to showcase their artwork at The Beacon Museum, Whitehaven.

The creative group, known as Fabricate, will stage the 'Second Thoughts' exhibit, set to open on Saturday, April 27.

A Fabricate spokesperson said: "As a cooperative of textile artists, we are incredibly pleased to be working with The Beacon Museum to showcase our work.

"The Beacon’s ethos of promoting the rich history of West Cumbria fits well with our traditional craft-based textile art."

The focus of 'Second Thoughts' is to support ongoing sustainability efforts and promote an environmentally responsible ethos.

The exhibition promises to be a blend of traditional and innovative works that give testament to the creative expertise of the Fabricate artists.

The spokesperson said: “Our creative processes will involve reusing waste or unwanted textiles from wool to cloth, and other materials. Demonstrating how old textiles and clothing can be transformed into one-of-a-kind pieces.

“It’s a fantastic way for people to express themselves artistically by giving old textiles a second life, whilst also making a positive impact on the environment by reducing the amount we send to landfill."

Also in the programme are 'Meet the Makers' weekends.

These sessions will provide a platform for the artists to discuss their works whilst also demonstrating traditional craft techniques such as peg loom weaving, sewing, embellishing, spinning, and embroidery.

With numerous sessions to be held from April through to June, these weekends will offer insights into how the exhibited artworks are created.

The Fabricate spokesperson said: "By us all giving a ‘Second Thought’ and rethinking our approach to textile waste we can all play our small part in environmental conservation."

Managed and owned by Cumberland Council, The Beacon Museum is open every day from 10am-4.30pm during school holidays.

During term time, the museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4.30pm and Sunday, 11am - 4pm, being closed on Monday.
