A charity is gearing up for a yearly appeal to raise funds to support work raising awareness of climate change.

Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CaFS), in its Fight for Our Future appeal, is hoping to raise £20,000 for itself, with donations between April 18 and 25 to be doubled by the Big Give’s ‘Green Match Fund’.

“With the effects of climate change becoming more acutely felt, through extreme weather events, such as severe flooding, heatwaves, drought and wildfires, recent studies have highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on young people.

“One study found that around 60 per cent of people aged 16-25 are extremely worried or very worried about the climate,” a CaFS spokesperson said.

It comes as officials from the UN and climate ministers are set to visit a meeting in the US with the World Bank to discuss global finances for fighting climate change.

CAfS said it ‘supports and inspires communities throughout Cumbria to take action to tackle climate change’ through schemes focused on home energy efficiency, young people, and renewable energy projects.

Karen Mitchell, CEO of CAfS, said: ‘Climate change poses significant threats to the health and well-being of young people, and it’s imperative that we take action now to prevent this.

“Through our ‘Fight for our Future’ campaign, you will be supporting projects that are reducing our reliance on polluting fossil fuels and improving the quality of life for everyone.”
