PATIENTS waiting in a busy A&E department left without treatment after a woman made lewd comments and shouted at police, a court heard.

Police attended West Cumberland Hospital on February 4 with Angel Paris Jordan, 39, who had been detained until she received medical treatment.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting at Workington Magistrates’ Court, said the defendant had been chatting to officers but then became verbally abusive and attempted to leave the hospital. She had to be detained.

Paris-Jordan had fallen asleep on some chairs and her handcuffs were removed by officers. When she awoke, she was ‘angry’ they had been removed. The handcuffs were then placed back on.

Shortly afterwards, Paris-Jordan kicked the officer ‘with force’. She made ‘sexualised’ comments about being restrained and shouted at the officer, ‘get off my leg, b****’.

Further comments of a sexual nature were made and Paris-Jordan was arrested at that point.

In a statement, the officer said Paris-Jordan was shouting and swearing throughout the incident and members of the public were making comments about her behaviour. Some were seen leaving without treatment.

During police interview, Paris-Jordan said she had been waiting for treatment for hours. She said the officer was on top of her, with her private parts in her face.

Paris-Jordan, of Keekle Terrace, Cleator Moor, pleaded guilty to assault by beating of an emergency worker and failing to surrender to court bail.

John Cooper, defending, said: “She is here for a kick. She has pleaded guilty to that.

“She had been at a gentleman’s house. Drink had been offered to her. She contacted police – she thought she had been spiked. She was initially wanting to make a complaint.

“If she were to be detained and taken to hospital, that would help her. Blood tests to see what was going on. She was the one who reported a crime and was taken away by police.

“There are a lot of mental health issues.”

Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order with 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Paris-Jordan was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
