HMV is currently organising its upcoming Live and Local concerts.

The gigs will take place in-store at the Carlisle shop and will feature artists from across Cumbria.

Russ Withey, the store manager, said: "We're looking to have a really big summer of acts coming up and we're looking for any artists interested in performing in-store to get in touch about playing in the coming months.

"We're also going to be having our own stage for HMV Live and Local at The Lanes on June 8.

"There'll be a stage outside of Debenhams, we'll have solo artists and duos performing, so we want upcoming acts that want to perform on a big stage to have their music heard.

"We'd like any acts that want to perform to get in touch because we want to make the Live and Local set bigger and better than ever this year.

"The acts we've got coming up include Ninety-Nine Mr. Bens who'll be performing at HMV on May 4, and Somethin' Brewin' performing on June 1.

"We have a lot of the same acts returning because we've been doing the sets for almost four years now.

"Some of the artists really enjoy doing it and some have them have become customer favourites.

"But we still want to get on fresh acts that we've never had before, HMV Live and Local is a chance for them to get their music heard as they're just starting. It'll be a good opportunity for them.

"Because we advertise them, some people will come and watch the full sets, and because we've been doing them for so long a lot of customers know that if they come to HMV on a Saturday afternoon, they'll get to hear live music.

"For others, the music will attract them to the store, some of them will only stand and watch a bit but lots of them still come to the counter to find out more about the artists who are playing."
