A Carlisle man is to shave off his ‘luscious locks’ in order to raise £1000 for charity.

Andrew Hall has already raised more than £300 for Macmillan cancer support charity ahead of the planned hair shave in May.

Andrew was inspired to raise money for Macmillan after a close friend was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

“We were going to shave it off anyway,” said Andrew.

“We were looking originally to raise money for maybe the Eden Valley Hospice but as we were looking to arrange it, a friend of mine got a rather nasty cancer diagnosis.

“He has lymphoma and shadows on his lungs so I switched to charity and decided that I would try and raise 1, 000 for Macmillan.”

The hair that is to be shaven will be donated to the Little Princess Trust which makes real hair wigs for children undergoing cancer treatments.

“In a situation like this, you don't know what to say or what to do really, do you?” Said Andrew.

“So, I just wanted to show so much love and support in any way that I could really and I thought I could do that by going bald.”

Andy’s flowing locks have been an iconic look for him since the 2000s apart from a brief spell after he shaved his hair off to raise money for dogs for the disabled.

“We're going to go for a number one, to be honest,” said Andrew.

“It could be quite cold, so I have quite a few hats ready, and I've got a few friends that have chucked over some hats to me but we’re looking forward to it.”

The shave is due to take place at the end of May at the Wolseley Plumb Centre in Carlisle.
