A Brampton pub has stepped in to provide 'lovely gentleman' Brian Pease with a new town crier coat.

The Howard Arms Hotel on Brampton's Front Street has provided and sponsored the former town crier's blue coat and hat which he will wear at his future engagements.

Brian stepped down from his official position as Brampton town crier in February after the parish council raised concerns about his public liability insurance cover, however, in the wake of this local businesses such as the Howard Arms Hotel have stepped in to ensure that the tradition is continued.

She said: "Brian has been a customer of ours for quite a long time since we have had the pub and he is a lovely gentleman.

"He does a lot of volunteer work and he is just such a nice person and it is all about giving back to the community.

"We wanted to sponsor him for a new coat to make sure he can continue doing what he was doing with the coat and everything.

His other coat was not up to scratch so we thought we would replace it and we like to support our community as well so it was something for us and something for Brian.

Ruth also expressed the importance of keeping local traditions alive, with Brain's role representing a way for Brampton to keep promoting itself in the region.

"It means a lot to us because it is our local community.

"It is important to keep these traditions alive for future people to see.

"He is such a great character to have when you have got something going on and it is really nice to have someone who is promoting the town of Brampton so it is important that we keep traditions like that going."
