Top drivers are heading to the Lakes this weekend for a legendary rally's 47th year.

The Malcolm Wilson Rally, named after the Cumbrian rally legend,  consists of 43 miles of rallying on various classic Lakes Stages.

The event spans across two stages on Friday night and five more during the day on Saturday, covering routes between Cockermouth and Penrith.

Due to the event, all trails at Whinlatter Forest will be closed to the public on Friday, while Grizedale Forest's west tracks will be off-limits on both Friday and Saturday to accommodate the competition.

It will form part of this year's BRTD championship.

Last year, M-SPORT factory driver Adrien Fourmaux bagged the victory.

In difficult conditions, Fourmaux and co-driver Alex Coria took their Pirelli-shod Ford Fiesta Rally2 to a convincing victory in the snow-laden Cumbrian stages, finishing 53 seconds ahead of last-year BRC runners-up Keith Cronin and Mikie Galvin.

The event is sponsored by M-Sport UK Ltd Team Manager Malcolm Wilson, and is organised by Morecambe Car Club, Kirkby Lonsdale Motor Club & West Cumbria Motorsport Club.
