A DOG has been taken by police and a police investigation started, following a worrying incident in which three sheep were killed.

Cumbria police attended the incident this morning, January 22 , with the dog being taken by police and an investigation started into the incident.

In a statement on social media, Carlisle police said: "Unfortunately, we started the day by dealing with a sheep worrying incident, we saw at least 3 sheep had been killed and others injured. The dog has been taken by Police and investigation started.

"Following this we have been at H&H auction engaging with the farming community before spending the afternoon conducting farm visits to improve security and give crime prevention advice.

"We had some problems getting to some as tree blocked roads but with the help of local farmers we were able to get the roads back open quickly in remote locations."
