NOMINATIONS are now being sought for our 2024 Cumbria Farmer Awards to celebrate the heart of the county’s agricultural community and put our farmers centre stage.

The awards, now in their fourth year, are launched by Newsquest Cumbria in partnership for the second year running with Cumbrian accountants David Allen, who are also sponsoring the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award.

“At David Allen, we are thrilled to be the headline sponsor of the Cumbria Farmer Awards 2024,” says partner David Allen. “We take great pride in championing the farming community and supporting their invaluable work with the services we offer. We are excited to work together ensuring a prosperous future for agriculture in Cumbria and look forward to finding out about the dedication and commitment of those nominated.”

Winners will be celebrated in a glittering awards ceremony on Friday, August 16 at the Greenhill Hotel, near Wigton, when our host for the evening will once again be Radio Presenter, Caz Graham, with John Wharton, farmer and livestock manager and auctioneer at Mitchell’s Auction Mart in Cockermouth, our compere on the night.

Alongside farming’s core sectors, dairy, beef, sheep and machinery there is also recognition in other valued groups such as students, young farmers’ clubs, new entrants, food, local agricultural businesses, and the huge number of diversifications, now so crucial to many businesses.

The awards will be judged by a panel of respected industry experts and specialists, headed by Michael Peile, Partner at Cumbrian Accountants, David Allen.“Celebrating the hard work of Cumbrian farmers is an honour that combines professional expertise with a heartfelt appreciation for the individuals and stories that make each farm exceptional.”

Factory Manager at Nestlé Dalston, Euan Horman said: "We are delighted to sponsor the Farmer Choice category at the Cumbria Farmer Awards for the third year. We have been working in this community for many years and see first-hand the incredible people in farming and hope the awards shine a light on the amazing work done by the farming community in Cumbria."
