A man who died after a fatal crash on the M6 has been named.

John Trotter, aged 88, from Penrith, died in the crash which involved a lorry and a car.

It happened just south of Southwaite Services on December 7 at 10.50pm.

Police closed the M6 Southbound just south of Southwaite services on December 7 after a report was received at 10.55pm, and it was reopened the next day at 8.20am.

A spokesperson from Cumbria Constabulary said: "Mr Trotter was taken to hospital with serious injuries but sadly passed away on December 8 in hospital.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the moments leading up to it – as well as anyone with information which may assist."
