Louise Bennett, from Stanwix, has just opened Louise Grace Beauty, in Fisher Street Galleries in the city centre.
She first entered the beauty trade more than 20 years ago after training at Lancaster and Morecambe College and then went on to work at a salon in Lancashire and on cruise liners.
After returning to Carlisle she went in a completely different direction and ended up becoming operations manager at Carlisle Mencap.
Last year she discovered cosmetics company Younique and this reignited her love of the beauty industry.
She said: “It started off with a love of the eye shadow palette but I quickly discovered that as well as the high-quality, mineral-based products, Younique was also a mission-based company working to empower, validate and uplift women all over the world.”
“I am loving it,” she added.
