SURVEY: Most people in Barrow won’t vote in cop role poll

ALMOST 60 per cent of people questioned in a survey by the Evening Mail say they will not play a part in electing a new commissioner with wide-ranging powers over policing.
And almost 60 per cent of people said they would not be voting in the elections on November 15.
Thirty-one people out of 100 who were questioned in Barrow town centre yesterday said they knew all about the elections and would definitely be voting in them.
However, 59 per cent said they were either not aware of the elections or would not be voting. Ten people said they were aware of what was going on but had not decided if they would take part.
The four candidates for the post of police and crime commissioner for Cumbria will be coming to the Forum, in Duke Street, this evening.
The event takes place at 7pm, with tea and coffee served in the gallery from 6.30pm.
The meeting is a chance for members of the public to listen to what the candidates have to say and to put their questions to them.
The four candidates are Conservative Richard Rhodes, Labour's Patrick Leonard, Pru Jupe from the Lib Dems and independent Mary Robinson.
Voters in England and Wales are due to go to the polls on November 15 to elect a commissioner for each force area outside London. The new commissioners will control police budgets, set priorities and have the power to hire and fire chief constables.

Captain bluebirdseye - with all due respect, you are wrong. I have voted in every election since I was old enough, and have listened to the campaigns, etc. and made the best decision I could.
The reason I am not going to vote in this particular "election" is I am vehemently opposed to politicians being in charge of the police. I do not see why they should be in charge, nor do I see how they can possibly have the experience needed to run a police force. If the polling cards had a "not voting because I object" box, I think it would win!

I have had no information about the contestants involved.I thought the whole process was to be independant of politics but the only participants appear to be of political persuasion.The whole process appears to be the usual it will be a job for the boys and I for one will not participate in the fiasco.HOW CAN YOU TELL WHEN A POLITICIAN IS NOT BEING TRUTHFULL............................................THEIR LIPS MOVE.
