Teenage Cumbrian all-rounder Liam Trevaskis says it was a great learning experience to represent his country.

Trevaskis featured with bat and ball in all five of England's Under-19s' one-day matches against India, hitting a half-century in the fourth match of the series at Gloucestershire's Bristol County Ground.

England did lose the series 5-0, although improved as the series went on as they lost by one run in the fourth game and then by one wicket in the fifth game at Taunton on Wednesday.

Penrith's 18-year-old Trevaskis, who is on the books at Durham, said: "It was very good. It was a good learning experience.

"They [India] have some very good players with a bit of first-class experience.

"Some of the [England] lads went to India last year. But this group only met up over the last three weeks. Hopefully, we can get stronger."

Carlisle-born Trevaskis proved to be consistent with the bat. He scored just shy of 140 runs across the five games and took some valuable wickets, as well.

On his own performances, Trevaskis said: "I'm pretty happy with how I have done. I did OK, but I didn't set the world on fire. But I'm trying to add to my game."

And the Durham prospect certainly would have had plenty of opportunities to improve his game during the last few weeks, having worked alongside some high-profile former international players.

"We have had Andy Flower and Graham Thorpe work with us," he said. "They are coaches you can draw on so much experience from. We have definitely got some good experience from them."

Trevaskis' England call-up for the one-day internationals against India rounds off a dream couple of months for the teen.

He made his first-class debut for Durham on July 25 in their nine-wicket defeat to Notts Outlaws.

"It was one of the things at the start of the season I wanted to do. It was great to make my debut," he said.

Left-arm spinner Trevaskis finished unbeaten on 13, before he went on to open the bowling and took the wicket of England opener Alex Hales for his maiden First XI wicket.

He added: "I guess I will take that."

Liam, whose brother Kieran plays for Penrith Cricket Club, knows another former youngster from the Tynefield Park outfit in Asher Hart, who now plays for Hampshire.

"I played with him and I have been good mates with Asher for a few years," Trevaskis said.

"We have watched each other develop. It's been good to see him progress during his career."

As for the next steps in Liam's develop, he will be returning to Durham and taking part in an academy game this weekend. He hopes to earn a place in the Durham side for their 2nd XI match against Lancashire next week.

Elsewhere, Penrith's Ella Telford is on Lancashire Thunder's books.
