Marlon Samuels has warned Cumbrian all-rounder Ben Stokes to “stay on the boundary” ahead of England’s One-Day International series against the West Indies this month.

The pair have clashed several times in the past and the Jamaican batsman has renewed his war of words with the 26-year-old, from Cockermouth, ahead of their next meeting.

Samuels, set to return to the Windies squad alongside explosive opener Chris Gayle for the five-match ODI series, admitted he has no plans to “start anything” – as long as Stokes “keeps quiet”.

“With me coming to England, he [Stokes] should stay on the boundary when I’m batting, as far away as possible,” said the 36-year-old.

“As long as he keeps quiet, I won’t start anything.

“So, if anything does happen, that means he has said something to me first. I’m going to come to England and be a good boy – at least for the start of it.”

Stokes and Samuels will renew acquaintances in the ODI opener on September 19 at Old Trafford. It comes three days after a one-off T20 international between the two countries at Chester-le-Street, a game in which Stokes has been rested.

Their most notable previous clash came when Samuels saluted Stokes after he had been dismissed in a Test match in Grenada in 2015.

They were both involved in the Indian Premier League this year with Stokes breaking records as he impressed for Rising Pune Supergiant. Samuels featured for Delhi Daredevils.

“He wanted to take me on a couple of years ago. He started something and I told him he better be prepared to finish it,” Samuels added in The Guardian .

“But I saw him during the IPL this year and he didn’t say anything.”

Ahead of the final North Lancs & Cumbria weekend, Keswick pro Geeth Kumara has agreed to play again in 2018.
