The Indoor bowls season often ebbs away slowly allowing the outdoor to take over in late April. Not this year however for there have been five tremendous days of bowling on the Viaduct Estate in Carlisle with two major events being staged.

Defeat spells end of Cumbria's national indoor bowls hopes
Cumbria Indoor Bowls Club’s last chance of a representative in one of the four main disciplines at the National Championships was scuppered on Sunday when Paul Barlow, Trevor Taylor and Stephen Farish went down to Alan Foulds, Tony King and Mark Dawes of Blackpool at Penrith.

Copeland's David Forster edged out in singles final
There were two national area finals completed at Carlisle on Saturday and a good crowd was treated to some excellent bowling especially in the singles final between Copeland’s David Forster and Blackpool’s Dominic McVittie.
