Nick Miller will continue his eventful 2017 season at the European Athletics Team Championships this weekend.

Hammer thrower Miller, from Scotby, has been selected to represent the British team in Lille. The event takes place from today until Sunday.

Another British athlete set to be involved in France during the build-up to this summer’s IAAF World Championships in London is Olympic bronze medallist Sophie Hitchon who, like Miller, is coached by Tore Gustafsson. Other Brits due to take part include Richard Kilty and Shara Proctor.

Cumbrian Miller will be looking to improve on his performance at the last European Team Championships in Russia in 2015, where he came second in the hammer.

And Miller will be heading to French soil in good form – although things have been far from plain sailing for the Commonwealth Games silver medallist.

“It has been a busy time, flying in and out of the UK with sleep disrupted and lots of hanging around airports,” Miller said.

“This is what it’s like this time of the year, though, and it’s what I have to do to get myself recognised on that international circuit and make my mark.

“It’s just a pity I don’t have time to properly see any of these places I visit. It’s straight off the plane to the hotel, to the stadium, and I have no time to do anything in between.”

The 24-year-old finished fifth at Samorín, Slovakia, last weekend. He managed a best permitted throw of 73.74m after a couple of foul throws.

Meanwhile, Miller threw an impressive 76m in Poland, although that was only good enough to get the British record-holder third spot.

He also won an event in Spain recently, although Miller’s luggage was lost along with his hammer equipment and competition gear flying to Madrid. But the other competitors rallied round and put together kit for him to compete in as he went on to win the event.
