Craig and Louise Docherty bought their four-bedroomed property nine years ago and have since made it a home for sons Jack, four, and Harry, two in September.

Craig said: "We moved in when the house was new and were the first occupants as it had just been built by Persimmon.

"It's a small development and there are only five houses on our side. They are accessed by a separate road from the other 15 houses in the development so we’ve very quiet and private."

"We’ve got some really nice neighbours where we are, it’s almost a cul-de-sac location and all the children like playing out the front, it’s really safe for them.

"We forever have their children in our garden and our kids go and play in their gardens and it’s a really nice, friendly sort of place.

"Jack and Harry are always out on their bikes and scooters and they absolutely love it."

Because it was a new property, beyond fixing initial snags and redecorating, the Dochertys have not had to do anything major to their home since moving in.

One improvement they have done is laying Karndean flooring in the downstairs rooms, entrance hall and cloakroom.

The kitchen is Louise's favourite room, said Craig, as she likes cooking. In fact, this is one of the reasons why they are moving as they would like to do more entertaining.

A utility room leads off the kitchen - "It’s handy having the separate utility room as it keeps a lot of things out of the way," said Craig - and there's a door to the integral garage.

He added: "The kitchen looks out on to the garden and it’s nice watching the kids play while we’re working in there."

Upstairs are four bedrooms, the master en-suite, and a bathroom and a conservatory completes the layout.

"That's probably my favourite room, looking out on to the garden," said Craig.

"We’ve put a raised flowerbed at the back of the garden with some reclaimed railway sleepers. We've got a nice decking area, a lawn that the kids like to play football on and there’s a hot tub - room for negotiation here! - in the back garden too with a patio around.

"I think the main attraction of our house is the outside space, it’s south-facing and we look out on to fields and trees.

"You feel like you’re in the countryside when you’re sat in the back garden because it’s so peaceful yet five minutes’ walk and you’re in Brampton town centre.

"And Brampton Junior School is on the same lane as we are - it’s literally 200 yards' walk."

He and Louise both work at Border Steelworks Structures in Carlisle, Craig as financial director and Louise as secretary. She was born and bred in Brampton and when the Sawmill Lane development was built, they made the move from their home in Carlisle.

Craig said: "We absolutely love Brampton. It’s great walking into town and people stop and say hello and nobody walks past you in the street. It’s just a nice place to live and certainly feels like home."
