Police name suspects arrested in connection with Cumbria building society robbery

Three people have now been charged with robbery.

At 1.13 pm on Thursday (17) police were called to a report of an incident at the Cumberland Building Society on Station Road, Silloth where a staff members within the branch were threatened with a knife and cash demands made.

A quantity of money was stolen during the robbery no one was harmed.

One of the alleged suspects escaped on foot and is believed to left the area in a blue Ford Focus, registration number V647KOX. The police have now recovered this vehicle.

Armed officers arrested three suspects, two males and a female, at an address in the Harraby area of Carlisle.

All three suspects were detained at  Workington police station and were questioned last night by detectives from West Cumbria CID. A 24 year-old male was been released without charge.

A further suspect was arrested in Carlisle yesterday morning.

Kevin Docherty, 34, of no fixed abode has been charged with robbery and possession of offensive weapon in a public place, Tanya Miller, 30, of Eldon Drive, Carlisle has been charged with robbery and Barry Doswell, 25, also of Eldon Drive, has been charged with robbery
They all appeared in Carlisle Magistrates yesterday and were remanded into custody.

Detective Inspector Ian Harwood said: “We are keen to establish the movements of this Ford Focus registration number V647KOX particularly where it was between 1 pm and 4 pm. We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Silloth area or who knows anything about this robbery.”
