More wind and rain for Cumbria - but no white Christmas

A weather warning for heavy rain has been extended for Cumbria.

A yellow Met Office warning for rain – issued for parts of the north west – was originally only in place until the early hours of tomorrow morning for Cumbria.

However, the forecaster has extended it until tomrrow afternoon, warning that gale force winds will also accompany the band of heavy rain.

Weather officials warned of the risk of localised flooding.

Engineers from Electricity North West were working last night to restore supplies to just under 200 homes in the county that had been left without electricity after storms hit Cumbria on Wednesday night.

Forecasters have also virtually ruled out the chances of a white Christmas.
