Make Carlisle Race for Life a real family affair

Mums are being encouraged to unite with their daughters and enter this summer’s Race for Life.

Cancer Research UK, which runs the event, said it provides the perfect opportunity to spend time together while raising money for a good cause.

The Carlisle 5km race at the Sheepmount Stadium takes place on Sunday, July 7, and competitors can walk, jog, run or dance their way around.

Race for Life, run in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year to help defeat cancer by funding life-saving research.

Jayne Glasgow, Cancer Research UK’s north west events manager, said: “Mother’s Day is the special occasion when we acknowledge that universal truth – it’s mums who make the world go round.

“We want to encourage women in Carlisle to buy their mums a very special gift this year – a place in Race for Life. And by signing up themselves, they will be able to stand together, side by side, on the start line in a defiant gesture to cancer.” She continued: “We all know how committed mothers can be when they really make up their minds to do something.

“And we want to harness that power and create a unique force that will stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for crucial research.”

Last year, 2,849 women took part in Race for Life in Carlisle, raising £171,210.

Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for its ground-breaking research.

Jayne added: “There are more than 200 cancers and we won’t give up until we find cures for them all.”
