Cumbrian mum crawled to safety after brutal beating by son

A Carlisle man who knocked his own mum unconscious after a row about his boozing has been told he faces jail.
Colin Davy, 35, of no fixed abode, had been taken in by his mother earlier this month when he found himself homeless.
Carlisle Magistrates’ Court heard how he repaid Audrey McKai by brutally assaulting her.
Davy has a number of mental health problems and had threatened Ms McKai in the past.
But she agreed to let him stay with her as long as he didn’t drink.
On Wednesday, she suspected he had broken his promise and challenged him.
Prosecutor Jane Mackrill said that all Ms McKai could remember was standing up, then regaining consciousness on her living room floor as blows were rained down on her head.
Ms Mackrill told the court: “He was thumping her hard. She moved her hand to a sore point on her face and felt blood.
“She wasn’t sure if he was punching or kicking her but she thought he was going to kill her.
“She could see a pool of her blood on the carpet,” she added.
When Davy eventually stopped, Ms McKai managed to crawl to her back door and escape down the path to shout for help from neighbours.
She had suffered numerous cuts to her face and the back of her head.
Davy fractured a bone in his hand during the attack.
Defence solicitor Martin McAllister said his client was troubled but had shown remorse and regret for his behaviour.
The magistrates decided that their sentencing powers – of a maximum six months in prison – were not enough to deal with Davy.
The case was committed to Carlisle Crown Court and he was remanded in custody until sentencing there on March 16.
