A call centre which has already doubled its workforce since opening could be about to recruit more people.

Creditfix may also consider taking more space in the building in which it has set up.

The insolvency firm, which helps people with credit management and specialises in dealing with insolvency, opened its Carlisle base, inside the Enterprise Centre on James Street, in January.

It started out with 13 staff but now employs about 30.

Now the firm is set to expand even further with the possibility of up to another 20 staff being recruited to manage a growing workload.

Gordon Smith, of the company, said: “If the sales rate keeps going there is the possibility that we might take on the whole first floor of the centre. We give a bit of diversity to employment in Carlisle because there are no other call centres here.”

The new recruits are needed to manage increasing demand at weekends, with students or those with family commitments during the week among those who may be interested in the work.

Creditfix also has bases in Glasgow and Shipley in West Yorkshire.

Before setting up in the city, it carried out work with the city council and formed a recruitment alliance with Carlisle College.

The company said it chose Carlisle because it wanted another English base, with its proximity to Glasgow making it an ideal location.

Telesales staff and administrative workers are employed at the Carlisle centre.

Elsewhere in the country, the firm already employs more than 100 people. Its arrival and development in Carlisle has been welcomed by the city council.

Recruitment for the new posts is set to start soon.
