Brampton exhibition highlights what you can do with leftover textiles

A group dedicated to making things from leftovers is demonstrating its skills in an exhibition.
Salvage and Stitch, who are based in Brampton’s community centre, are hosting the event at Talkin Tarn’s Alex Boathouse.
The show marks the first anniversary of the group, which is run as a co-operative.
Eileen Norman, one of its members, explained what the purpose of the group was. She said: “We make everything from recycled yarn and textiles.”
The exhibition features clothes, accessories and other garments they have created.
“That’s the kind of stuff we do but there are some bigger items as well,” Ms Norman said.
When the organisation was set up in 2012 it had only two members but in the 12 months since this has grown to eight.
Ms Norman explained that the exhibition was about showing off what the group had done in its first year in existence.
She added: “The other thing that we are hoping to do is inspire people to reuse things rather than throwing them away.”
Julia Neubauer, one of the two founders, said: “The original idea for the co-operative came from the belief that with a little bit of creative thinking a lot could be done with stuff that other people were throwing out.”
She regularly receives donations of fabrics.
“People in Brampton seem really pleased to think that their off-casts are being put to good use rather than just going to the tip.”
Ms Neubauer said everything Salvage and Stitch produces is unique as it is made from what is available at the time.
The exhibition runs until Friday, March 22.
