All the big wigs came to our charity ball, darling

Decadence was used to support a major cancer charity.

The Big Wig Ball used this as its theme when fundraisers took over the Hallmark Hotel, Carlisle.

More than 100 people turned up to support CLIC Sargent.

Janice Grieves, one of the organisers, said: “We were really pleased.”

Guests turned up either in evening wear or fancy dress, with some opting for a combination of the two.

One table was dedicated to people who had raised money for the charity.

Originally it was booked by a firm of accountants, who could not attend on the night and handed the tickets, and a donation, over to the charity.

The event, on Saturday night, saw a number of people affected by cancer take to the stage and talk about their experiences.

Three cheques were also presented to CLIC Sargent.

The first came from Rahai at the Waterloo, Brampton which held a curry night, raising £656. Two other cheques – for £475 and £450 – were donated by Frank Alston and Martin Spears, of Brampton, who ran the Kielder marathon in 2012.

A raffle leading up to the event, and a charity action on the night, raised more than £2,200 for the charity, with more money still to some in.

A group of girls including a Miss Cumbria entrant – dubbed the ‘Clic chicks’ – also collected money on the evening.

The event was thought up by Mrs Grieves, of Brampton, after a friend’s son suffered from cancer.

She organised it alongside Jodie Armstrong who owns Belle Wedding Boutique in Carlisle.

Photos and a DVD of the event will be available soon from Carlisle firm Aperture. For full details visit www.aperturestudio.co.uk/default.asp.
