A WEBSITE offering tickets to Rod Stewart’s Carlisle concert at almost 10 times their face value has defended its use.

Fans of the singer were quick to snap up tickets to see him at Carlisle United’s Brunton Park stadium next June. However, there was outrage after tickets appeared on websites at heavily-inflated prices – with a pair of top floor seats being touted for £2,090 on Viagogo.

Promoters Cuffe and Taylor have warned that some could be invalid if sellers have broken terms and conditions.

A spokesman from Viagogo, the online ticket marketing place, said: “Sellers set the prices on Viagogo and for popular events such as Rod Stewart, prices can be higher because there is huge demand and limited supply. However, while a seller can list a ticket at any price he likes, it doesn’t mean the ticket will actually sell at that price. Tickets for Rod Stewart’s appearance in Carlisle currently start at £95 on our site.
