Enthusiasts from all over the world flocked to Cockermouth today to celebrate everything that is best about wool.

Visitors from as far afield as the USA, Central and Eastern Europe and South Africa mixed with locals who browsed the hundreds of stalls boasting brightly coloured wool and fabric.

The event, the original British festival of wool, is the culmination of a year's work for the members of the Caldbeck-based The Wool Clip co-operative.

Staged at Mitchell's Lakeland Livestock Centre, the event, which is held again tomorrow, is a wool and craft enthusiasts dream - from unusual wool fashions to shared fleece expertise there's something for everyone.

"It's been so busy and we have more than 20 new stallholders as well as designers and makers who've been regulars at Woolfest for 13 years," said Pam Hall, a member of The Wool Clip and one of the organisers.

She added: "It’s been great, we’ve had no real negative feedback and there’s a real party atmosphere."
