Across the world, the ever-growing problem of plastic rubbish is causing problems for beaches and waters.

For the Solway Coast, this is no different.

With rough tides comes more rubbish, and this is the problem faced by the beaches on the Solway Coast.

To tackle the problem, Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) help to support a number of beach cleans, to try and collect some of the rubbish washed up on our beaches.

Tomorrow volunteers will be helping to pick up rubbish from Allonby Beach.

According to the manager of Solway's AONB, Naomi Hewitt, work like this is vital.

She said: "It is really important.

"If you have 10 volunteers and they pick up two bags of litter, that can have a big impact."

Naomi believes it's about more than just looking after the environment though.

"It is a bit of a social situation, you get to meet new people.

"People can come out for as long as they want.

"There is nothing better than getting out into the fresh air and out onto the landscape - and there's the health benefits too!"
