A HOLIDAY park in Silloth is set for a major expansion, with 42 new caravans planned for the site.

The application by Solway Holiday Village on Skinburness Drive, in Silloth has been marked for approval by Allerdale council.

However, the planned expansion has received a number of objections from local residents.

The plans are to extend the current Meadow View Park to fit more caravans.

No objections were given by the town council, however 15 letters of objection have been received from nearby residents.

The prospect of flooding, problems with traffic and effects on living conditions, were all listed as reasons for the objections.

One resident, Harvey Elliot expressed flooding concerns in his letter to the council.

He said: "I would only comment that the planning authority must be satisfied that the proposed surface water drainage installation will be adequate, both for the proposed development, and so as not to hinder drainage from the existing development.

"For guidance; drainage on the existing site is only just adequate, and plot 16 suffers minor flooding after heavy rain."

Another resident doesn't want to see more caravans on the site

He said: "I do not want more caravans on Solway, as I have lived on Lido Village for 18 years and nothing has been done to roads or drains in all that time.

"I think they should get this place sorted out before they think about buying more."

A decision on the application will be made by the council on January 9.
