Almost as if with the flick of a wand, Penrith Showground will be transformed into a living town this weekend.

Bustling with life, energy, agriculture, entertainment and trade, Brougham Hall Farm will host one of the biggest, one-day stock shows in the north of England tomorrow.

Entertainment is lined up, trade stands are full, so is the rural crafts marquee - and the food hall and livestock pens will be bursting at the seams.

Cream teas, marquees, vintage tractor displays and shampooed cattle will all feature in this year’s rural revelry at Penrith Show.

Traditional sports will be staged alongside stalls showing off state-of-the art industrial and farming gear.

There are rosettes and trophies to be won in everything from best handwriting (under-sixes) to cakes and bakes, mare and foal and shearling rams.

The fun-filled day out for the family sees main ring entertainment revealing ancient horsemanship skills combined with the medieval art of falconry as part of the Free Spirit Show.

Beautiful white stallions perform classical dressage and Spanish high school moves, and are ridden both with saddles and bareback, while breathtaking falcons dive, roll and stoop at over a hundred miles-per-hour as they chase a swung lure.

Show secretary, Mandy Hitch said: "This display is the only one of its kind and is the result of a lifelong passion for horses and falcons."

The City of Coventry Corps of Drums will also perform in the main ring.

Formed in 1947, they are one of the longest running youth marching bands in the UK with more than 70 years of history behind it.

In the ring and around the field the show boasts a "creation station", where people can "get crafty with the kids"; chainsaw carving and sales; a mobile climbing wall; the Ben Long Falconry School Display and Land to Mouth audio production.

The free park and ride bus service will start at the Auction at 10am, stopping at the bus station and Bridge Lane, with the last bus back at 6pm from the Showfield.

Ticket prices are people aged 17 - 64 years: £12; children five to 16 years: £4; adult 65 years-plus £8 - and under fives free.
