A popular Penrith pub is about to reopen.

The General Wolfe was forced to close two months ago, citing fierce competition in the market town.

But it had been a popular town centre pub with locals and had a loyal clientele.

Next Friday it will be brought back to life by local businessman Ricki Lamb and his family.

Ricki Lamb Mr Lamb has been in-charge at The Crown Inn, Pooley Bridge, for the last 18 months. During that time, he has achieved wide recognition after being given the Tripadvisor award for excellence.

Since taking over the General Wolfe as well, it has undergone some refurbishment work to make it ready for the festive season, traditionally the busiest time of year for pubs.

The Crown Inn manager Hannah Cowin and chefs Cameron Harrison and Mark Wynn will be transferring to The Wolfe.

Mr Lamb said he is looking forward to working with local companies.

“We hope to bring the same value for money and quality service that has made us a success in Pooley Bridge,” he added.

“We pride ourselves in supporting local businesses and hope to continue this ethos by using local breweries and suppliers.”
