More roadworks are set to cause disruption for drivers in Carlisle.

Motorists are being warned that delays are possible when workmen begin a project on Norfolk Street, Denton Holme.

Northern Gas Networks are currently operating in Richardson Street but will be moving onto Norfolk Street in the coming weeks – however, the company were unable to provide a firmer timescale.

The works, which will be carried out between St James’ Road and Westmorland Street are scheduled to be completed within a maximum of eight weeks but a spokeswoman said it was more likely work would take three weeks.

The company says delays are “unlikely” although there will be some “carriageway incursion”.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation for around one week at the end of the works.

A spokesman for the utility firm said: “We are carrying out essential work to replace ageing metal gas mains in the road with more durable plastic pipes.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting these works completed as quickly as possible.”
