A week of major roadworks are set to be carried out on a main road in north Carlisle.

Work - costing £200,000 - to repair worn out parts of Kingstown Road and Scotland Road will start on August 29.

It will be carried out between 7pm and 6am under the control of temporary traffic lights. There will be no road closures.

A spokesman for Cumbria County Council said: "We are carrying out the work at night to minimise disruption.

"It will start on August 29 and we anticipate it will take nine nights but this is weather dependent."

The first section of the road to be resurfaced will be the area from outside Bannatyne's gym to the Lowry Hill traffic lights. This work is expected to take seven nights.

The second section will be from the Lowry Hill traffic lights up to the Kingstown pedestrian crossing, beside the industrial estate.

And the third section will be the parking bays outside Kingstown Post Office.

The council spokesman added: "The work from Lowry Hill to Kingstown and the area around the parking bays should take one night each.

"There will be some noise so we apologise to residents and businesses for this but it is unavoidable.

"We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding."

The work will not be carried out at weekends.
