Carlisle’s popular international market returns this August Bank Holiday.

Organisers say the food and cultural showcase – a popular fixture in the city centre for a number of years – will again highlight authentic flavours from around the world.

More than 30 traders will set up stall along English Street from Thursday 24 to Monday 28.

The market will be open from 9am until 5.30pm, Thursday to Saturday and from 10am until 5pm on the Sunday and Monday.

A spokesman for Market Place, the operator of the market, said: “English Street will be transformed into a shoppers’ haven and food lovers’ paradise as traders from all over the globe, handpicked for the quality and popularity of their products, visit the city for the long Bank Holiday weekend.”

Organisers say treats on offer will include Spanish, French, German, Italian, Greek and Turkish street foods.

There will also be Thai food, Indian curries and rare and exotic meats and burgers, including ostrich, kangaroo, wild boar and crocodile.

British cheeses and a hog roast will also be on offer, as well as cakes, biscuits and other sweet offerings. Beers and wine will be available. Plants will be on sale.

The spokesman added: “Market Place have also handpicked a selection of traders selling unique products from various countries around the world.

“Come join us this Bank Holiday weekend for a fantastic day out for all the family.”
