Families made the most of new outdoor activities which were unveiled at one of north Cumbria's most popular beauty spots.

Talkin Tarn, the popular country park, near Brampton, which attracts thousands of people every year, is now the home of Talkin Adventures.

It offers archery, boat hire, kayaking and canoeing.

Owner of the activities firm, Darren Morgan, said: "It was brilliant.

"The sun was shining and the boats were really popular.

"We've had lots of enquiries so it was absolutely superb."

As many as 60 people made the most of the new array of things to do at the tarn, with about 20 groups hiring a boat.

Many others were there walking the circular 1.3 mile-route.

Children were entertained by Jason the Juggler and could also have their faces painted.

"There were loads of people there. The queues for ice cream were out the door.

"We had a lot of people saying they were so glad to see the boats were back," said Darren, who is hoping schools and youth groups will make the most of the new activities.

"We have invested a lot into this. Time, effort and money. It's got to work."

Darren is running the business with his wife Robyn and has a small core team as well as several freelance instructors he can call on.

The couple have lived in Carlisle for five years and Darren has a background in outdoor activities.

They felt that it was something the tarn was missing.

"We always visit Talkin Tarn," said Darren.

"We brought our little boy down to go in a canoe and there weren't any for hire."

Orienteering, raft building and other team building activities will also be on offer.

Boat Hire will be available every weekend up to October half term.
