Cumbria's only standalone prep school is enjoying national praise.

In a double celebration, Hunter Hall School in Penrith has been given a clean bill of health by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) and it is in the running for two national awards.

ISI inspectors reviewed many facets of life including pastoral care, health and safety and safeguarding.

Headteacher Donna Vinsome said: "We are absolutely thrilled with the results of our latest inspection. It has been a very worthwhile exercise and whilst it was never in any doubt what a super school Hunter Hall is, as a place to educate children, it was wonderful to hear a ringing endorsement that the school had met each standard with aplomb."

The school, which opened in 1985, currently has 84 pupils.

Hunter Hall School, which has 84 pupils, has also been shortlisted for two awards from the Times Educational Supplement.

In its Independent School Awards, Hunter Hall is shortlisted in the marketing campaign and independent-state school partnership categories.

The awards take place next February.
