A woman with first-hand experience of a charity giving women strength and confidence in their battle against cancer wants to give something back – and is aiming to raise thousands of pounds to show her support.

Breast cancer survivor Danielle Musson (CORR) and her husband Trevor are hosting a charity tea with the hope of raising up to £3,000 for Look Good Feel Better (LGFB).

The charity provides practical and effective support to improve the wellbeing and self-confidence of women and teenagers undergoing cancer treatment.

The couple, who own tax investigation specialist firm DGT Consultants in Longtown, are hosting the event in the grounds of their Carwinley home, The Mill House, near Netherby, on Saturday, July 23.

Last year Danielle, 58, attended one of the free workshops held monthly at Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary. She had cancer in 2014 and went along after she’d finished her radiotherapy treatment.

“It was very, very good,” she said. “It was very upbeat. We did a quiz in October and I said I’d do one big event and try and raise some decent money for them.

“It’s just my way of saying thank you.”

The two-hour workshops teach women to give themselves time to pamper themselves and about the importance of cleansing, toning and moisturising their skin, which may have become more sensitive and suffered adverse effects from treatments like radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

They are run by a team of qualified beauty volunteers who give skincare and make-up tutorials, as well as handing out specially-selected gift bags.

“For women who have lost their eyelashes and their eyebrows through chemotherapy, they can show them how to make the best of their looks and how to make up for it,” continued Danielle. “It’s something a bit cheerful and a bit fun. You’ve enjoyed the company and it’s not all doom and gloom.

“There’s lots of charities and I know they’re all good.

“But I’ve had first-hand experience of this one and I thought it was great. It makes people feel better.

She and Trevor, 65, are welcoming people to their home between 12.30pm and 4.30pm, though Danielle said guests can stay as long as they want.

They’d like to sell 100 tickets for the event, which includes afternoon tea, a performance from the Esk Valley Jazz Band, a raffle, tombola and licensed bar.

For tickets call DGT Consultants 01228 791414 or email dgtcltd@googlemail.com.

Tickets can be bought in person from Gossip Hairdressers in Longtown which is run from the same building in Netherby Street.
