The revamped Wigton Road service will see a Post Office terminal sitting alongside the retail till on an open-plan counter.
It will open on October 13 with the Post Office service being available during the store’s opening hours of 7.45am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 7.45am to 1pm Saturday and 7.45am to 12pm on Sunday.
The Post Office will close from 5.30pm on October 4 to allow the refurbishment to take place.
During its closure Post Office services are available for local residents at Scotch Street Post Office in Carlisle city centre and Morton Post Office in Newlaithes Avenue.
Julie Kemp Post Office area manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”
She said customers will be able to access a wide range of Post Office and mail services, including Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.
